Pitkin County wanted to highlight Redstone’s historic “coke ovens”, which are very important to the area’s heritage.
After a lengthy bidding process, Pitkin trusted Western States Reclamation, Inc. to turn a blighted piece of ground into a focal point for the community to celebrate it’s past and enjoy its open space.
To develop the project, Western States had to solve many challenges but foremost was the need to design a system to bring water to Elk Park from another park that required irrigation lines to cross Crystal River. Western States responded with a design build, fully automated irrigation system that effectively addressed the water needs by bringing water under an existing bridge – providing water and avoiding and eyesore.
To complete this project, Western States had to remove an unsightly asphalt parking lot, do light earthwork and but its design skills to the test.
